History of our Manufacturing Partners

The first glass kiln was ignited in 1548 in the picturesque, mountainous region of Northern Bohemia, known today as Crystal Valley. It was here that a new industry emerged over the next several hundred years in the workshops and ateliers scattered across the majestic Jizera mountains. In the heart of it all was - and is - a small town called Jablonec nad Nisou, where 25 independent glassmakers came together exactly four centuries later in 1948 to establish one supreme crystal manufacturer: Preciosa.

Centuries later, Daniel Swarovski (24 October 1862 – 23 January 1956), a Czech-born glass cutter, jeweler and founder of the Swarovski crystal dynasty patented an electric cutting machine and immigrated to Austria. The Wattens, Tyrol factory location was chosen to take advantage of local hydroelectricity for the energy-intensive grinding processes Swarovski had patented.

In November 2020, Swarovski announced a massive corporate restructuring focused on the protection of their brand usage. The brand name Swarovski, as of November 2021, will only be used for strategic luxury partnerships. Factory workers lost their jobs, regional operations were closed worldwide limiting operations to only five countries (United States, Spain, Italy, U.K., and China), and resellers of their crystal components across the globe were told their access to their beloved products would be almost immediately cut off. During this massive transition, many LUX Austrian Crystal products will be transitioning from production in the Swarovski factories to production by Preciosa. Our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible for our customers.

Learn more about this transition in our blog: Swarovski® Corporate Restructuring (and what it means for you).

Social Responsibility

We believe in maintaining our brand’s integrity with close trusted business partnerships, equitable and fair work environments, and manufacturers who protect our beautiful planet and its natural resources. The Preciosa group exceeds our expectations for social responsibility and we are proud to partner with them as our preferred manufacturer of LUX European Crystal™. We believe corporate responsibility goes beyond the protection of natural resources to include the human resources and customers who use these products. Preciosa strives to ensure safety for those who use our products and enforce environmentally safe working conditions that utilize ecologically responsible technologies.
