What size rhinestones should you use for fall projects?
Most makers build around 20ss (4.6mm-4.8mm) as the main all-over size, fill with 16ss (about 3.9mm), and accent with 30ss (about 6.4mm). Use 12ss (about 3.1mm) and smaller for fine detail, outlines, and lettering. For nail art, stay between 3ss and 12ss. To compare every size, see our rhinestone size chart with ss, mm, and inches.
What can you make with fall rhinestones?
Fall rhinestones work for costumes, nails, crafts, and seasonal decor. Our Crystal Halloween blog walks through three projects:
- A trick-or-treat bucket covered in Sun, with Jet for the eyes, nose, and jagged grin.
- Witchy nails in Neon Violet and Crystal AB.
- Decorative velvet corn in Topaz, Honey, Aurum, and Chocolate.

Can I use fall rhinestones for Halloween projects?
Yes. Orange, gold, and black crystals such as Sun, Hyacinth, and Jet are common Halloween colors, and our Crystal Halloween blog uses them on a trick-or-treat bucket.
What is the difference between hotfix and flatback rhinestones?
Flatback rhinestones are glue-on: you set them with a fabric or craft glue and a pickup tool. Hotfix rhinestones have a heat-activated adhesive on the back and are set with an iron or a BeJeweler® applicator. Flatback suits custom work, delicate or heat-sensitive materials, and non-fabric surfaces. Hotfix suits fabric that tolerates heat.
What glue should I use for fall rhinestone crafts?
We recommend Gem-Tac for most fabrics and E6000 for trickier materials like synthetic suede and velvet. Always test on a scrap first. Browse our rhinestone glues to compare options.
How many rhinestones do I need?
It depends on whether you are outlining a line or filling an area. For solid coverage, plan on approximately 68 stones per square inch at 12ss, 43 at 16ss, 30 at 20ss, 16 at 30ss, and 13 at 34ss. One gross is 144 stones, and rounding up keeps you from running short. For the full breakdown, use our stone sizing tool and estimating guide.
What size crystals are best for fall nails?
For nail art, stay between 3ss and 12ss. Mixed Packs combine multiple shapes and sizes in one pack, and you can shop them with our crystals for nails.
